Welcome to Build Upon a Rock

Welcome to Build Upon a Rock.
If you are new here, you might know me through my professional work at Urban Spaces by Design, where I spend my days analyzing site plans, reviewing LEED specifications, and designing modern, functional spaces. But behind the blueprints and the sustainability checklists, there is a deeper philosophy that drives everything I do.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells a story about two builders. One built his house on the sand, and when the storms rushed in, it fell with a great crash. The other built his house upon the rock. When the winds blew and the floods came, that house stood firm because it was securely founded.
But the imagery of the rock runs even deeper in our faith. It is the very foundation of the Church itself. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus looks at Simon and says, "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church." Jesus chose a firm, unyielding foundation to safeguard His mystical body.

As a designer and LEED consultant, I think about literal foundations every day. A building is only as safe, durable, and resilient as the ground beneath it. But as a Catholic mother, I see how these scriptures mirror our daily lives. If Christ built His Church upon a rock, we are called to build our "domestic churches"—our homes and our families—on that exact same unshakable foundation
Why This Blog Exists
Too often, we segment our lives. We treat professional design as one thing, environmental sustainability as another, physical wellness as a separate chore, and our spiritual life as something reserved strictly for Sundays.
I started this blog because I believe all of these elements belong under one roof. Build Upon a Rock is a space where professional expertise meets a holistic, intentional lifestyle.
Here, we will explore:
The Sacred Home: Practical ways to cultivate a "domestic church," creating physical spaces for prayer, and aligning our homes with liturgical beauty.
Intentional Motherhood: Navigating the beautiful, messy realities of raising a family in modern urban environments without losing our peace or our purpose.
Sustainable & Healthy Living: Demystifying LEED principles, exploring biophilic design, and sourcing non-toxic materials to protect your family's physical health.
Designing from the Ground Up
Whether you are an urban professional looking to renovate a condo, a parent trying to reduce toxins in your home, or someone simply seeking to infuse more peace and faith into your everyday environment, you have a place here.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Together, let’s design spaces that don’t just look beautiful on the outside, but are built to withstand the storms of life—from the foundation up.
Let’s connect: What is one area of your home or daily routine that you want to bring more peace and intentionality into this week? Let me know in the comments below!

What a super and timely blog! Thank you for creating this place to come to get inspired and to share.
I would like to submit a space that I frequent often in my home, my home office. I am blessed to work from home, and would like to make this space better.
